We are a small team of high schoolers dedicated to crafting language curriculum, raising awareness, coding user interface, and teaching language learners.

Sophie Ma
Founder and President
Sophie is a senior at DuPont Manual High School. Outside of her work at Teaching Terra, she works as the CEO of STEMY, a Louisville-based 501(c)(3) aiming to break socioeconomic barriers in youth STEM education. In her free time, she likes to compete in Science Olympiad, write poetry, dance in her room, and hang out with her friends.

Warren Van Nort
Vice President of Outreach
Warren is a senior at duPont Manual High School. Outside of Teaching Terra, Warren serves as Junior Class Vice President. He also loves volunteering with Manual’s KEY club, Beta club, and National Honor Society. In his free time, Warren loves to watch “Survivor” and try new restaurants in the Louisville area.

Demos Negash
Vice President of Operations
Demos is a senior at duPont Manual High School. Outside of their work at Teaching Terra, Demos is active within his school’s Y-Club and enjoys competing on the national debate circuit. In addition to his role at Teaching Terra, Demos also is heavily involved in local politics, where he started a coalition of Young Democrats clubs throughout Louisville to strengthen and mobilize teens. In his free time, he enjoys watching cooking shows, playing basketball, and researching about international affairs.

Jack Duplessis
Vice President of Technology
Jack is a senior in high school. He likes to bake and work on cars in his free time.

Anna Morgan
Treasurer
Anna Morgan is a senior at Dupont Manual High School. Outside of Teaching Terra Anna also works with STEMY, a nonprofit that aims to break socioeconomic barriers to STEM education. She also enjoys running and participating on her school’s Science Olympiad team.

Katherine Cummins
Secretary
Katie is a senior at duPont Manual High School. In addition to being on Teaching Terra’s board, she spends her time playing field hockey, tutoring at Educational Justice, and writing for On the Record. She is passionate about education equality and believes that everyone deserves a chance at earning a quality education. She also enjoys spending time with her friends and family and most importantly her dog, Maisie.

Alice Kadner
Curriculum Chair
Alice is a senior at duPont Manual High School. Apart from designing the curriculum for Teaching Terra, she participates in both the lacrosse and cross country teams, tutors for Educational Justice, and plays piano at YPAS. In her free time, she enjoys reading and learning about the environment.

James Jean-Marie
Graphic Design Chair
James is a senior at duPont Manual High School. Outside Teaching Terra, James spends his time designing and photographing for On The Record, a magazine for the youth of Louisville. He is passionate about working with graphic design and in his free time, loves to play soccer, take photos, and hang out with friends.

Kassidy Haynes
Marketing Chair
Kassidy is a senior at duPont Manual High School. Aside from her work with Teaching Terra, she volunteers with the Resilient Families Project, a nonprofit organization that seeks to promote resilience among those experiencing homelessness. Kassidy also works with Educational Justice, a nonprofit organization that aims to address educational inequity. In her free time, Kassidy likes to read, run, and play lacrosse.

Jackson Arnold
Tech Consultant
Jackson assists in the planning and implementation of TeachingTerra’s digital platform and has a passion for electronics and economics. He enjoys learning about world affairs as well as reading and playing video games. In the future, he hopes to be able to travel the world and meet people across it.
